Moving to the Netherlands from the U.S.A.
Well, I've decided to create a post in case anyone is planning on moving here and wants a head up about a few things to pack and stuff! Moving to Europe was my first time even being in Europe so it's a pretty basic list of stuff.
-Measuring cups, although I've seen them at the Bijenkorf, you'll be hard pressed to find them.
-Vanilla extract, maple extract, almond extract, food coloring, Crisco, Hersheys cocoa. You can buy them from the American store, but at exorbitant prices.
-Stick deodorant for your dude
-One pair of tennis shoes for exercising only. Wearing white sneakers gives you away as an American right away. I like to blend in- boots, boots, boots.
-When you first arrive and need to get basic house stuff do NOT hit Ikea first. Go to the market, you'll be able to find way cheaper stuff. Blokker, Zeeman, and Xenos are your local friends.
-Get produce from the market if you're looking for less expensive stuff.
-Unless you're buying a power converter thing don't bring your straightener, blow dryer etc. For laptops you can just buy an adapter for like 2 euro. We're only here for one year so I've just done with out a few things!
-If you're a student there is this housing subsidy where the gov't pays up to 40% of your rent-DO IT.
-Get an Albert Heijn card, it will save you $$.
I will continue updating and hopefully this helps someone moving here! :)

Utrecht
For some reason it just shocks me that this house is from 1924....It's too cool looking to be that old. |
I really liked this, it's like everyone has a moat around their house! Raise the draw bridge!! |
(HARRY) |
Pretty canals |
Cool alley! |
For some reason they had this in the museum.... |
Well that's all for now folks! And Kim I'm going to try to keep my blog going like you told me to!!
